The Brown baseball team was eliminated from contention for the Ivy League title after losing both games of a doubleheader against Penn on May 2. Penn won the first game 11-3 and secured a second victory with a score of 7-3, taking two out of three games in the final regular season series.
This outcome means Brown will enter the upcoming Ivy League Tournament as either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed. The tournament is scheduled for May 15-18 and will be hosted by either Penn or Yale, depending on the results of Yale’s final three games next weekend.
Brown completed its regular season with a record of 21 wins and 18 losses, marking its highest win total since the 2009 season. The team also finished with a conference record of 13-8 in Ivy League play.
In game one, Logan Meusy and Mark Henshon each recorded two hits for Brown, but Penn outhit them overall. Key moments included Penn building an early lead through multiple scoring innings and extending their advantage late in the game with home runs and doubles. Henshon contributed an RBI double in the ninth inning to close out Brown’s scoring.
During game two, Alex Benevento led Brown offensively with two hits and two RBIs while Matt Luigs added two hits and an RBI as well. After falling behind early, Brown rallied to tie the game at three runs apiece before Penn responded with four runs in the seventh inning to secure their win.
Looking ahead, Brown awaits confirmation of its seeding for the Ivy League Tournament based on upcoming results elsewhere in the league.
