Brown men’s tennis edged by Dartmouth at ECAC Championships

The Brown University men’s tennis team concluded its participation in the ECAC Championships with a narrow 4-3 defeat to Dartmouth on Sunday. The match, held in Princeton, New Jersey, saw Brown enter as the No. 8 seed with a season record of 6-4, while Dartmouth was seeded seventh and improved to 7-3.

In doubles competition, Ivan Sodan and Zander Bravo lost to Miles Groom and Henry Ren by a score of 6-3. Theo Murphy and Elliot Wasserman were edged out by Calvin Wang and Adrian Treacy in a tiebreaker, falling 7-6(8-6). The Bears secured one doubles victory when Lukas Phimvongsa and Noah Hernandez defeated Denny Bao and Kornel Halmos, 6-2.

Singles play featured several close contests. Sodan earned a straight-set win over Ren, 6-1, 6-2. Phimvongsa came from behind to beat Halmos in three sets: 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Hernandez added another point for Brown with his victory against Treacy, finishing 6-2, 7-5. However, Robert Yang fell to Groom (6-1, 6-3), Wasserman was defeated by Leo Pade (6-3, 7-5), and Bravo lost to Bao (6-3, 6-2).

Brown will return to action on Saturday, February 21 for an away match against Richmond.
