Brown University’s softball team shut out Holy Cross in both games of a doubleheader at Brown Softball Field on April 21. The Bears won the first game 4-0 and the second game 7-0, with strong pitching performances and a powerful offensive display.
The doubleheader showcased Brown’s pitching staff, which allowed only three hits and four walks across both games while striking out nine batters. Macy Borowski started the first game, and Annie Finch earned her first win of the season in the second game. Edie Cobb closed out both games with two shutout innings each, picking up the win in game one. With these results, Brown’s pitchers have now gone 22 consecutive innings without allowing a run. The last time Brown achieved three straight shutouts was during the 1994 season.
In game one, Borowski struck out six batters over five innings and limited Holy Cross to minimal scoring opportunities. The Bears broke through offensively in the sixth inning after capitalizing on errors and timely hitting from Jasmine Hsiao and Elli Thompson.
Game two saw an offensive surge from Brown, who finished with ten hits—eight for extra bases—including two home runs by Maya Choksi and Abby Bettencourt as well as a season-high six doubles. Bettencourt contributed significantly with multiple hits including a home run and a double that drove in runs during a decisive fifth inning rally.
Looking ahead, Brown is scheduled to travel to Ithaca for an Ivy League series against Cornell beginning Saturday, April 25.
