Brown University’s softball team secured a doubleheader sweep against Cornell on April 26, as the Bears continued their pursuit of a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. The victories brought Brown’s record to 17-21 overall and 8-8 in Ivy League play, while Cornell moved to 20-22 overall and 7-12 in conference games.
The wins are significant for Brown as they improve their standing within the league and keep them competitive for postseason play. Strong pitching performances were key to both games, with Edie Cobb allowing just one run over her last 16.2 innings pitched. Cobb earned the win in game two and picked up a save in game one.
Macy Borowski was also instrumental, earning the win in game one by pitching over five innings with seven strikeouts. She reached her career milestone of 250 strikeouts during this outing. In that first game, Borowski contributed offensively as well, going three-for-four at bat and driving in two runs.
Game two saw Brown’s offense surge for its second-highest run total of the season, defeating Cornell by a score of 14-1 after five innings. Seven different Bears collected hits during this matchup, with Elli Thompson leading by going three-for-four at bat and scoring four runs. Lilly Burns drove in three runs while Alyssa Villarde added two more RBI.
The team’s dominant performance included capitalizing on early opportunities and taking advantage of errors made by Cornell. The margin of victory was Brown’s largest since March 2022 when they defeated Holy Cross by fourteen runs.
Looking ahead, Brown will finish its series against Cornell with another game scheduled for Monday afternoon.
