Brown University’s softball team won both games of its home opening doubleheader against Stonehill on March 19, taking the first game 6-5 and the second 9-1 in five innings.
The sweep marks a strong start for Brown at home this season. The victories improve Brown’s record to 5-11, while Stonehill falls to 1-19. The results highlight key performances from several players and set the stage for upcoming Ivy League play.
Maggie Foxx led Brown offensively with three hits, including two home runs and six runs batted in over the two games. Elli Thompson also contributed three hits and drove in four runs with a double and a triple. In pitching, Macy Borowski and Edie Cobb each earned complete game victories, with Borowski striking out eight batters in game one and Cobb allowing just two hits while striking out seven in game two.
In the first game, Foxx drove in five runs, including her first career home run. Borowski pitched all seven innings to secure the win. The Bears responded quickly after an early deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Despite late pressure from Stonehill, Borowski closed out the seventh inning without allowing any more runs.
The second game saw Brown collect eight hits as Cobb limited Stonehill to just one run over five innings. Thompson led with three RBI while Amanda Deng and Abby Bettencourt each drove in two runs. A big fourth inning helped break open the score for Brown, capped by a walk-off triple from Bettencourt.
Looking ahead, Brown will begin Ivy League play by hosting Columbia for a three-game series starting Saturday, March 21.
