Brown women’s water polo splits games at Bronco Invitational

Brown University’s women’s water polo team split two games at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, California, on Saturday. The Bears lost their first game to No. 18 San Jose State with a score of 8-4 but rebounded later in the day with an 18-7 victory over Santa Clara.

In the opening match against San Jose State, Brown led early, holding a 2-1 advantage after the first period and maintaining a 3-2 lead at halftime. However, San Jose State outscored Brown 4-1 in the third quarter and kept the Bears scoreless in the final eight minutes. Aubrie Anderson, Alexandra Love, Megan Newby, and Samantha Kim each scored for Brown.

The second game saw Brown defeat Santa Clara decisively. Sofia Holman led all scorers for Brown with four goals. Madeleine Poissonnier, Hanna Homma, Aubrie Anderson, and Ella Palmer each contributed two goals. Six other players added one goal apiece. Brown held a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and increased it to 8-4 by halftime. A strong third quarter gave them a 5-0 run before closing out with a 5-3 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Looking ahead, Brown will conclude its participation at Santa Clara with a matchup against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT.
