The Bryant University men’s lacrosse team will host Iona University on April 11 as part of the program’s Youth Night and Senior Night, according to an announcement on Apr. 9. The game is scheduled for Saturday at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island, with a start time of 6:00 p.m.
This meeting marks the first time Bryant and Iona have played each other in men’s lacrosse. A win would bring Bryant’s season record to 5-5 and secure their first victory over the Gaels.
Bryant enters the contest with a record of one win and one loss against teams from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this season. Defensive players Luke Krebs and Jack McCloskey have each caused twelve turnovers so far this year. Zac Amend leads Bryant in points with thirty-one, scoring twenty-one goals and providing ten assists.
Owen West recently achieved a career-high by scoring six goals in last week’s game against NJIT, becoming the first Bulldog to reach that mark in a single game this season. Together, West and Amend have combined for fifty-three points, accounting for thirty-nine percent of Bryant’s total points scored. The Bulldogs are averaging just over ten goals per game.
Iona arrives at Beirne Stadium having won two of its last five games but currently faces a two-game losing streak after defeats by Merrimack and Siena. Cooper Metz and Gary Shivell lead Iona defensively with seventeen and fifteen caused turnovers respectively, while Cullen Lawry has scored twenty goals so far this season. Freshman Carson Turissini leads the Gaels with thirty-seven points from eighteen goals and nineteen assists.
The outcome of Saturday’s match will set an early tone between these programs as they meet for the first time.
