Brown University announced on May 9 that four female distance runners from its track and field team competed at the New England Championships held Saturday at Stonehill College. The event served as the final preparation for the upcoming Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships scheduled for next weekend.

The university said that senior Juli Gonzalez led the Bears in the 800-meter race, finishing sixth out of 29 runners with a time of 2:15.50. Sophomore Bria Benigni placed ninth in the same event with a time of 2:14.95, while freshman Megan Jasinski finished tenth with a time of 2:16.01. Senior Sarah Paul competed in the 1500-meter race and finished ninth, recording a time of 4:50.83.

According to Brown University, these performances represent important experience as athletes prepare for their conference championship meet next week at Princeton on May 16-17.

The university also highlighted support provided by the Brown University Sports Foundation, which it said plays “a crucial role in enhancing the student-athlete experience.” The foundation supports athletics through philanthropic contributions from alumni, parents, fans, and friends.

Looking ahead, Brown’s track and field team will focus on preparing for competition at Ivy League Outdoor Heps next weekend.
