Providence College graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski has been named the Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week. The announcement came on Monday, Feb. 16, after Walinski helped lead the Friars to victories over Boston College and No. 14/15 Holy Cross.
Walinski achieved a 1.47 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage over the weekend, stopping 58 of 61 shots in total. She made 35 saves during Friday’s 3-2 overtime win against Boston College, marking her 14th game this season with at least 30 saves. Walinski did not allow an even-strength goal in either contest.
So far this season, Walinski has played in every game for Providence. She currently holds a 2.81 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage, and an overall record of 11-17-2.
The Friars will finish their regular season next weekend. They will play at Boston University on Friday, Feb. 20 at Walter Brown Arena in Boston, with puck drop scheduled for 6 p.m. The team will then return home to face No. 5/5 Northeastern Huskies for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Schneider Arena in Providence at 4 p.m.
