Providence College announced that graduate student guard Jaylin Sellers has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Sellers led the Friars to two wins last week, averaging 27.0 points per game. He shot 65.6 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from three-point range during these games. In a win against Xavier on February 25, Sellers scored a game-high 27 points with a shooting performance of 10-14 from the field and 4-6 from three-point distance. He matched this output with another 27-point effort in Providence’s victory at Creighton on February 28, making 11-18 shots overall and going 5-8 from beyond the arc.
For the current season, Sellers is averaging 18.0 points per game, which ranks him second in the BIG EAST conference, along with four rebounds per game. He is making 43.5 percent of his three-point attempts and leads the conference in free throw percentage at 86.7 percent. In conference play specifically, he averages 19.6 points per game, also ranking second in that category. Over his last seven games, Sellers has scored at least 20 points six times and reached or surpassed the 27-point mark in three contests. This season, he has tallied at least 20 points in eleven games.
The Friars’ next matchup will be on Wednesday when they host Marquette at home at 7:00 p.m., with coverage available on Peacock. The event will also serve as Senior Night for six players on the team, with a ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., prior to tipoff. Tickets are available through Friars.com or by calling the school’s ticket office.
