PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Western Connecticut State University senior goalkeeper Anna Schipf has been named the NCAA Division III Defensive Player of the Week by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), it was announced by the organization Tuesday. She is the first player from the Little East Conference (LEC) to garner an IWLCA weekly award this season.

Schipf was named this week’s LEC Goalie of the Week after totaling 11 saves in WestConn’s 10-9 overtime triumph at Coast Guard last week, which was the Wolves’ lone contest of the week. Seven of those stops came in the second half, and she turned away the only shot on target she faced in the extra period. The Bears entered the contest averaging 14.3 goals per game.

WestConn has a pair of games scheduled for this weekend, hosting Rhode Island College Saturday in its LEC opener before heading to Springfield College for a non-conference contest Sunday.
