Astrid Jhonnieli Santos Adames won first place at Rhode Island's Poetry Out Loud Recitation Competition held March 7 at Greenwich Odeum. She will represent her state at regionals later this month in Washington D.C., as part of a national effort encouraging poetry among high schoolers.
