Providence College announced on April 22 that its softball doubleheader against Rhode Island, scheduled for Wednesday, has been cancelled because of inclement weather.

The cancellation affects both teams’ midweek plans and comes as Providence prepares for upcoming conference play. Weather-related schedule changes are common in spring collegiate sports and can impact team momentum and preparation.

According to the college, the Friars will resume action this weekend with a three-game series against Villanova at Glay Field from April 24 to April 26. The games are part of the Big East Conference schedule.

Fans looking for updates about future games or schedule changes can follow the program’s Instagram account @pcfriars_softball or X (formerly Twitter) account @PCfriarsoftball for real-time information.

The next series against Villanova will provide an opportunity for Providence to continue its season following the disruption caused by weather.
