The Providence College softball team defeated Georgetown University 5-4 on April 29 at Glay Field, securing the win with a walk-off ground out by Cameron Dunn. The Friars came from behind in the seventh inning after trailing 4-1 to clinch the series victory.
This win is significant as it brings Providence closer to clinching at least a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season title. With one more victory against Butler this upcoming weekend, the Friars can secure that achievement.
In the game, Gabriella Lee tripled in the second inning to bring Zoe Krizan home and give Providence an early lead. Georgetown responded by taking a 4-1 advantage in the fifth inning. In a dramatic seventh-inning rally, Lee singled to left field to score Krizan and keep hope alive for Providence. Emily Jonte then doubled, driving in Dominique Gallardo and Becca Weaver to tie the game at four runs each. Dunn’s ground out allowed Lee to score and complete the comeback for Providence.
Pitching contributions included Tori Grifone striking out two batters over four innings, with Alyssa Twomey and Alannah Hopkins providing relief over three combined innings.
The Friars are set to return to action from May 1-3 at Butler, where they aim for another win that could secure their place atop the conference standings.
