The Providence College softball team defeated Holy Cross 1-0 on April 7 at Glay Field in Providence, Rhode Island. Freshman pitcher Grace Brooks recorded six strikeouts over five innings to secure the win for the Friars.

The game remained scoreless through the first four innings as both teams struggled offensively. Providence broke through in the fifth inning when Cameron Dunn grounded out to shortstop, allowing Gabriella Lee to score from third base and bring in the only run of the game.

Brooks faced a total of 16 batters, giving up three hits and striking out six before being relieved by Addyson Frye in the sixth inning. Frye added two more strikeouts and earned her second save of the season.

Hailey Frantz and Gabriella Lee each contributed hits for Providence during Tuesday’s matchup.

The Friars are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 8, with a doubleheader against Boston University. The first game is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
