The Providence College softball team split a doubleheader against Georgetown University on April 28. The Friars won the first game 9-1 in six innings and lost the second game 2-1.
The outcome highlights Providence’s continued strong performance in the BIG EAST conference, where they now hold a record of 16-4. These games are important as both teams compete for standings within their conference.
In the opening game, junior Alyssa Twomey pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and allowing just one run. Sofia Peterson put Providence ahead with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Emily Jonte and Brianna De La Fuente contributed runs in the fifth, while Zoe Krizan hit a solo home run in the sixth. Julia Renny added two more runs with a single before De La Fuente drew a bases-loaded walk to end the scoring at 9-1.
Georgetown took an early lead in game two by scoring twice in the first inning. Krizan responded for Providence with another home run in the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome Georgetown’s advantage. Addy Frye pitched all seven innings for Providence and recorded two strikeouts.
Providence is scheduled to play Georgetown again on Wednesday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m., with coverage available on FriarsLive.
