The Providence College softball team announced on April 6 that it will host Holy Cross on Tuesday, April 7, before traveling to Boston University for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 9. The Friars currently hold a record of 15-13 overall and are 7-2 in the Big East Conference.

These upcoming games follow an Easter weekend break for the team. The matches are important as Providence looks to continue its strong start in conference play and maintain momentum through the middle of the season.

Providence has won 11 of its last 14 games and recently began Big East play with a program-best start. The team’s eight-game winning streak earlier this season tied a school record before ending against Seton Hall. Several players are approaching career milestones; Sofia Peterson, Cameron Dunn, and Elisa Smith are all within single digits of reaching 100 career hits.

Freshman Nikki Gallardo recently earned recognition on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll after batting .833 in non-conference action. Senior Emily Jonte is hitting .400 for the season and was named Big East Player of the Week following her performance against DePaul. Cameron Dunn leads Providence with 33 runs batted in, 11 home runs, and a .925 slugging percentage—marks that rank among conference leaders.

In pitching, junior Alyssa Twomey leads with a 6-1 record and holds a fifth-ranked ERA in the conference at 3.41 over forty-one innings pitched. Tori Grifone also received weekly honors after throwing five shutout innings against Dayton.

Holy Cross enters Tuesday’s game with a record of seven wins and twenty losses, led offensively by Bella Nugent who has multiple extra-base hits this season. In pitching, Sophia Roncone has thrown over seventy-nine innings with sixty-four strikeouts.

Boston University stands at twenty-nine wins to eleven losses overall this year. The Terriers have several hitters above .340 batting average including Kylie Doherty who leads with fifteen home runs and fifty-three RBI. Pitcher Kasey Ricard anchors their staff with twenty-one wins so far this season.

Looking ahead, Providence will host St. John’s from April 10 through April 12 for another three-game series at Glay Field.
