The Providence College women’s golf team is set to compete in the El Campeon Collegiate at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, on February 23 and 24. The event will feature rounds one and two on Monday, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday. The tournament includes teams from ten other schools: University of Illinois Chicago, Bellarmine University, U.S. Naval Academy, Bethune-Cookman University, North Dakota State University, University of South Carolina Upstate, University of North Dakota, Longwood University, Bucknell University and Lehigh University.
Providence will play on a par-72 course measuring 6,109 yards. Junior Grace Catalano will make her collegiate debut for Providence during this tournament.
Earlier this month, Providence began its spring season at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate held at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The team finished 15th overall with a score of 981 (+129). Freshman Myla Bisceglia led the Friars by tying for 68th place with a score of 240 (+26), recording three birdies and her first career eagle during the final round.
This season marks a milestone as it is the inaugural year for women’s golf at Providence College. The team started its campaign at the Boston College Red Bandanna Invitational and achieved its best fall result with an eighth-place finish at the Lady Dolphin Invitational in Syracuse. Sophomore Gwendolyn Yarnall secured a tie for eighth place—the program’s first top-10 finish—with a score of 161 (+19).
The lineup representing Providence at El Campeon includes Gwendolyn Yarnall, Myla Bisceglia, Olivia Arone, Prisha Pandey and Grace Catalano. Additionally competing as individuals are Samantha Dunn, Campbell Bridges and Emma Peifly.
After El Campeon Collegiate, Providence will participate in the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational on March 8 at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo, California.
