Providence County ranked fifth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Providence County ranked fifth among counties in Rhode Island by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Providence County residents was an inflation-adjusted $26,930 per year. Providence County had 238,465 households in 2017, with a population of 633,704.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Newport County. Newport County's median income was $35,475 per year after adjusting for inflation – $8,545 more than Providence County. It had 35,421 households in 2017 and a population of 83,204.
