Bryant visits No. 25 UConn on Wednesday

Bryant University Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

 The Bryant University baseball team travels to Storrs, Connecticut, on Wednesday afternoon to face the 25th-ranked University of Connecticut Huskies. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.

Bryant vs. UConn

  • UConn owns an 8-4-1 record in the series between the two programs. The Huskies have won the last two, including a 9-8 victory last year in Storrs. 
  • Bryant's last win came in 2017 when the Bulldogs beat the then-No. 25 Huskies 9-3 at Conaty Park.
Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is coming off a series victory over Rhode Island, winning games one and three of the series. The Bulldogs won the first game, 8-6, in 10 innings and held on for a 3-2 victory in Sunday's finale. 
  • Bryant will be playing a ranked team for the third time this season. The Bulldogs swept No. 12 East Carolina to open the season but were swept by No. 24 Old Dominion two weeks later. 
  • Matt Woods leads the team with a .317 average to go along with six doubles, two triples and a home run. 
  • Derek Smith (14) and Logan Allen (12) are first and second on the team in runs scored, with Smith also adding nine RBI. 
  • Jackson Phinney and Alex Lane both contributed a pair of home runs last weekend at URI, with Lane now leading the team with three. 
  • Bryant ranks among the top 150 in the nation in both strikeouts per nine and walks per nine. The Bulldogs have registered nearly a strikeout per inning and have walked just 61.
