City of Providence recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Providence, Bank Newport City Center and The Providence Rink want to see your skills on the pavement in Providence’s first ever Roller Hockey Tournament! Individuals ready to play can fill out a form online today, and submissions are being collected until March 31. Starting on April 5, and running on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings through April 20, teams of five (consisting of four skaters and one goalie) will compete on the Providence Rink surface in a family-friendly, no contact, winner-takes-all showdown.
The competition is open to all players age 18 and over, and co-ed teams are strongly encouraged. Teams will have a choice of competing in either the Tuesday night or Wednesday night leagues. Two games will be held each night, culminating in a championship match on April 19 and April 20 for each league. Play consists of three 16-minute periods with a three-minute intermission in between.
The team fee is $250 and covers up to nine players. Individual players may also participate with individual fees. Players will be required to provide their own gear and rollerblades and quads are available to rent at the Providence Rink ticket office. The full list of rules and regulations can be found on the Providence Rink’s website.
The Providence Rink will be open for family, friends, and fans of all ages, so teams are encouraged to bring their supporters at no charge.
For those that want to sharpen their skills, or maybe aren’t ready to compete yet, the Providence Rink will host an open “Stick and Puck” before the competition from 4:00PM-6:00PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and all evening beginning at 4:00PM on Thursdays and Fridays. Show up with your skates, or rent them from the Rink, and nets and pucks will be on hand.
All information about the competition and open Stick and Puck is on The Providence Rink’s website.
