Little East Conference recently issued the following announcement.
The Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team will enter the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation in both the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and D3baseball.com national polls. The Warriors held onto the top spot in the polls after going 4-0 in last week’s Little East Conference (LEC) Championship Tournament, improving their record to 39-3 for the season.
Eastern opened the conference tournament with shutout victories over sixth-seeded Plymouth State (6-0) and fourth-seeded Southern Maine (5-0), and advanced to the tournament final with an 8-7 victory over third-seeded UMass Boston. The Warriors clinched their LEC-record 10th tournament title with a 16-1 rout of fifth-seeded UMass Dartmouth.
Eastern will open its NCAA tournament run on Friday with an 11 a.m. opening round matchup with Centennial Conference champion Swarthmore. The other two teams in the four-team, double-elimination regional are host Rochester (N.Y.) and Middlebury.
