Peverly

The Plymouth State University women's tennis program has a new head coach as Director of Athletics Kim Bownes announced Kathy Peverly will fill the role following the retirement of longtime coach Barbara Rawlsky-Willett last month.

Peverly has been around the sport of tennis since her childhood, spending time as head coach at nearby Moultonborough Academy and Inter-Lakes High School while remaining an active player herself.

"I am extremely excited to have Kathy Peverly join us as the new head women's tennis coach," said Bownes. "Kathy will not only bring tennis knowledge to our student-athletes, but wonderful enthusiasm and positive energy. I look forward to seeing her in action this fall."

Peverly served as the girls' varsity tennis coach at Inter-Lakes from 2007-12, earning the first banner for the program after finishing runner-up in the 2008 NHIAA Tournament in Class M-S. The Lakers came up just short in the finals, falling to Derryfield by a 5-4 margin.

Prior to her stint at ILHS, Peverly spent three years leading the Moultonborough Academy girls' program as head varsity coach from 2004-06.

"I am very excited to be joining the PSU Athletics family and I wish Barb a happy and relaxing retirement," said Peverly. "I have big shoes to fill, but with Barb's guidance through the transition, I am ready for the challenge. I look forward to my return to coaching and sharing my passion, enthusiasm and experience with the women of PSU tennis."

Peverly has served as a club representative to U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) and New Hampshire Women's Interclub Tennis League (NHWITL) since 2004, more than doubling participation in indoor women's tennis and introducing and mentoring countless players to the USTA/NHWITL competitive travel tennis league during that time, also spending 11 years as a captain at the 3.0 and 3.5 USTA ratings, advancing to districts and sectionals.

Peverly has a decade worth of experience assisting the local tennis pro in both Meredith and Gilford and within local club youth tennis programs. She spent five years as the Tennis Instructor with the Meredith Parks & Recreation Department, working with both youth and adults, and served as the Director of the Rockbottom Annual Invitational Tennis Tournament from 2007-19.

Peverly has held a seat on the board of Advantage Kids, a non-profit with a mission to introduce New Hampshire youth to the benefits of tennis and yoga, since 2019 and has spent two years as a tennis volunteer with the non-profit group ACEing Autism, a program for children with autism to grow, develop and benefit from the social connections and fitness through affordable tennis programming.

Additionally, Peverly has been the Social Tennis Mixed Doubles Coordinator at Gilford Hills Tennis and Fitness Club for 20 years.

A graduate of Plymouth State, Peverly holds a degree in psychology and also works for PSU's Office of Residential Life as the Housing Coordinator.
