Men’s Soccer Athletes of the Week: September 5, 2022

Offensive Player of the Week   Sondre Asheim (Klepp, Norway) – Midfield – Sophomore - Plymouth State

Asheim was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal and adding three assists while playing all 180 minutes as the Panthers opened the season with back-to-back wins. Asheim helped setup PSU’s final goal in a 3-0 win over Husson in Thursday’s opener, then played a part in each of the Panthers’ first three goals in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Maine-Farmington. He delivered a perfect corner to the far post that was headed in for the first goal, then his chip shot over the head of the defense made it 2-0. Asheim added another point in the 51st minute when his corner was bicycled into the net.   Defensive Player of the Week   Filipe Dutra (Naugatuck, Conn.) – Back – Freshman - Western Connecticut

Dutra was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week after leading a Wolves defense that yielded just one goal over their first three matches of the 2022 campaign. WestConn limited Vassar to seven shots (three on-goal) in a 1-0 season-opening victory before holding Nichols to five shots (four on-goal) in a 2-0 triumph, which saw Dutra set up the game-winning goal in the 61st minute. The Wolves capped the week with a 4-1 win over Eastern Nazarene, which it held to seven shots (three on-goal).   Goalkeeper of the Week   Hayes Estrella (Saco, Maine) – Senior - Southern Maine

Estrella was named the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week after going 1-0-1 while making 17 saves for the Huskies. He posted a .944 save percentage and a 0.55 goals against average over his 180 minutes played. He totaled nine saves to earn his third career shutout in USM's 1-0 season-opening win over Saint Joseph’s (Maine). Estrella then made eight saves in a 1-1 draw with Curry, including stopping a penalty shot in the 74th minute to keep the game tied.   Rookie of the Week   Nikolas Chevres (Miami, Fla.) – Back – Freshman - Western Connecticut

Chevres was named the LEC Rookie of the Week after scoring the first two goals of his collegiate career in a span of 7:32 to lead the Wolves to a 4-1 win over Eastern Nazarene Sunday. His first goal of the contest came in the 27th minute, and proved to be the game-winner in the contest.
