Field Hockey Athletes of the Week: September 5, 2022

Offensive Player of the Week   Liz LaMarco (West Hartford, Conn.) – Forward – Sophomore - Eastern Connecticut

LaMarco was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling four goals and two assist for eight points as the defending LEC champion Warriors got off to a 1-1 start to the 2022 season. After accounting for the team’s lone goal in a 2-1 setback to Johnson & Wales, LaMarco went off for three goals and two helpers in an 8-0 rout of Regis. She scored each of the first two goals of the match against the Pride, and potted her third in the 54th minute.   Defensive Player of the Week   Ali Roy (Paxton, Mass.) – Back – Graduate Student - Worcester State

Roy was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week after leading a back line that allowed just one goal in a 2-0 start to the season for the Lancers. Worcester State held Anna Maria to just three shots in 5-0 win, which saw Roy set up the team’s four goal of the match in the 22nd minute. She followed up with a pair of key defensive saves in the Lancers’ 2-1 triumph over Clark, the second of which came with 4:32 remaining in the contest two minutes after WSU took the lead for good in the game.   Co-Goalkeeper of the Week   Kayla Hnasko, Western Connecticut

Hnasko earned a share of the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week honor after allowing one goal while totaling seven saves over 90 minutes of action in a 2-0 week for the Wolves. She stopped all six shots on goal she faced after entering the game in the second half as WestConn rallied to top Manhattanville, 3-2, and then stopped one of the two shots on goal she faced in a 2-1 come-from-behind win over St. Joseph (Conn.).   Madison Ferrara (Somerset, Mass.) – Sophomore - Worcester State

Ferrara earned a share of the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week honor after stopping eight of the nine shots on goal she faces in a 2-1 win over Clark Saturday. The sophomore also played 30 minutes of the Lancers’ win over Anna Maria, and did not see a shot on-target in that span.   Rookie of the Week   Lena Kassel (Stuttgart, Germany) – Forward – Freshman - Fitchburg State

Kassel was named the LEC Rookie of the Week after accounting for each of the Falcons’ four goals in a their season-opening victory over Anna Maria last week. She opened the scoring 13:29 into the match off a feed from Grace Kerr, and then capped the scoring at 28:16 that was set up by Jessica Morse.
