BOSTON -- Bryant University baseball graduate student John Hosmer and junior Coleman Picard picked up weekly honors from the America East on Tuesday.
Hosmer was named the player of the week, while Picard earned pitcher of the week honors for the second time this season. The duo helped the Bulldogs sweep an A-10 opponent for the first time in program history, winning all three games at Davidson.
A Charlotte, N.C., native, Hosmer shined in his return to his undergraduate alma mater, going 6-for-12 with two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored in the three games. He posted a 1.083 slugging percentage and a .600 OBP on the weekend. On Friday, Hosmer hit a game-tying two-run home run in the top of the eighth as Bryant rallied from 4-1 down to win 6-5 in 11 innings. He picked up four hits in game two of the series, driving in four runs. Hosmer closed his weekend out with an RBI in game three.
Picard started game two of the series against the Wildcats and delivered 6.0 innings of three-run ball. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out 10. Picard has now struck out 10+ batters twice this season and has struck out 30 in 20.0 innings.
