Bike

Portsmouth recently issued the following announcement.

Reviving a pre-pandemic tradition begun by Mayor Jack Blalock in 2019 to celebrate National Bike Month, Portsmouth’s Mayor’s Bike Ride is scheduled for Saturday May 21, 2022. The route and pace are designed so that children and families are comfortable taking part.

Participants should meet by 11 am with their bikes and helmets at the Portsmouth Middle School/Public Library parking lot to join Mayor Deaglan McEachern. The ride follows an 8-mile loop along some of the City’s best bicycle routes, as well as revealing some hidden gems. Police will assist with ensuring safety on the route.

Registration is not required. Participants should just “show up,” ready to ride.

Portsmouth is currently a Bronze Level Bike Friendly Community according to The League of American Cyclists, and continues to implement initiatives to advance this designation and further encourage bicycling as an alternative form of transportation.
