Bryant University football linebacker Joe Andreessen was named to the Preseason All-Big South team, the league announced on Tuesday during the Big South Football Media Day presented by BuyB1.com.
In addition, wide receiver David Zorrilla and long snapper David McCain were named honorable mention selections to the preseason team. Bryant was slated to finish fifth in the six-team league, receiving one first-place vote. North Carolina A&T was picked to win the league by a vote of the coaches.
Andreessen is coming off a career year in 2021 that saw him earn All-Northeast Conference honors for the second-straight year. He posted 80.0 tackles, 8.0 TFLs and tied for the league lead with three interceptions. Andreessen averaged over 7.0 tackles per game and posted 10+ tackles on three occasions. He's averaging over 8.0 tackles a game his last 13 games and enters the 2022 season with 139 career stops.
Zorrilla was named an honorable mention to the offensive team after posting career highs in receptions (47) and receiving yards (623). He led the NEC in receiving yards per game and finished the year with nearly 5.0 catches per game.
McCain served as Bryant's long snapper on field goals, PATs and punts last fall and will return to that post this fall.
The 2022 season marks Bryant's first as a member of the Big South. Bryant opens its season on Sept. 1 at Florida International before hosting Rhode Island on Sept. 10 at Beirne Stadium. The Black and Gold will play host to Charleston Southern and Campbell, and will travel to N.C. A&T, Charleston Southern and Robert Morris.
