Learning and feedback opportunities are available at events throughout the City

Mayor Brett P. Smiley and City Council President Rachel Miller today announced a list of opportunities for residents to learn more about the PVD Comprehensive Plan and participate in the feedback and update process, which was launched last month.

“Providence is in a great position to grow in the next decade, and we want to ensure our growth is sustainable, will make Providence more competitive nationally, and that we are preserving the characteristics that make our city unique,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “That’s why we are hosting multiple opportunities and convening diverse perspectives to build a comprehensive plan that is accessible, intentional, and impactful. I strongly encourage all of our residents to find an opportunity that works for them and share their vision for Providence with us.”

“Updates to the Comp Plan happen once every ten years. That’s why it’s critically important to get it right,” said Council President Rachel Miller (Ward 13). “Residents and business owners can shape the future of development and growth for Providence. The City Council’s community meetings will offer a built-in framework for soliciting feedback from the public. Please join a convenient meet-up in the coming months and help shape Providence for years to come.”

The PVD Comprehensive Plan is a framework document that guides the long-term planning, policy, land use, and zoning codes for the city. The goals and strategies developed in this plan will inform how Providence will grow to meet the needs of our neighbors to address issues such as housing, transportation and economic development and will lay the groundwork for what our city will look like in the years ahead.  Mayor Smiley and Council President Miller are prioritizing equitable access and city-wide engagement to ensure the Plan’s goals and strategies reflect the needs and vision of the public.

In partnership with the City Council, representatives from the City’s Planning Department will lead workshops in wards across Providence to collect input for the Comprehensive Plan. The following dates have been scheduled, with more ward events to be announced soon:
