Four Rhode Island men have been charged for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to steal high-end vehicles from dealerships across multiple states, according to court documents unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Providence, R.I. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.
The indictment names Belter Giron, 28, of North Providence; Alberto Rivera, 24, of Cranston; Richard Robinson, 32; and Onix Eduardo, 27, both of Providence. They are charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen property.
Court records indicate that the four defendants had previously appeared in federal court following criminal complaints. Alberto Rivera and Belter Giron made initial appearances on July 30 and July 31, respectively; Richard Robinson appeared on August 19; and Onix Eduardo appeared before a U.S. Magistrate on September 3. Giron and Eduardo are currently detained in federal custody while Rivera has been returned to the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institutions where he was previously held. Robinson has been released on bond.
Between February 2023 and July 2023, the group allegedly burglarized twelve dealerships and stole approximately 120 vehicles valued at around $5 million. The thefts primarily targeted luxury brands such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Land Rover among others. Additionally, nineteen Husqvarna motorcycles were stolen from a dealership in Pennsylvania and eleven dirt bikes from Phillipston were stored at Giron's residence.
Communications between members of the conspiracy revealed discussions about vehicle thefts and efforts to sell the stolen vehicles. Surveillance video obtained by Providence Police allegedly shows individuals resembling Giron and Robinson covering a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk valued at $96,000 that was reported stolen from Hampstead one day earlier.
Law enforcement has recovered forty-one vehicles believed to be stolen by the group along with eleven dirt bikes mostly found in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. One Range Rover was recovered from a shipping container destined for Africa.
Assistant United States Attorneys Paul F. Daly Jr., and Julie M. White are prosecuting the case.
A federal indictment is an accusation; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI; police departments from Providence, Cranston, North Providence among others; state police departments from Rhode Island and Massachusetts; Internal Revenue - Criminal Investigation; and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
