LEC Announces 2022 Men’s Golf Major Award Recipients

The Little East Conference (LEC) announced officially its 2022 men’s golf major award recipients following the second-ever conference championship, which was hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University last week at Ellington Ridge Country Club.

Eastern junior Ashton Lewis (Fairfield, Conn.) repeated as the LEC Player of the Year after earning medalist honors at the 2022 LEC Men’s Golf Championship, finishing the two-day event with a total of 145 to lead the Warriors to their second straight LEC title. He carded a one-under par 71 on the opening day of the Championship before shooting a 74 on the second.

Lewis is undefeated on the course this fall, having earned medalist honors in each of Eastern’s five tournaments. He has been named the LEC Player of the Week four times so far this season.

Keene State College freshman Caden Capaldo (Swansea, Mass.) earned LEC Rookie of the Year honors as the top performing rookie at the LEC Men’s Golf Championship. He placed sixth overall, putting in a two-day total of 158 after shooting a 79 both days.

Capaldo was the first-ever Owl to earn medalist honors with his first-place finish at Norwich’s Tony Mariano Invitational. He has been named the LEC Rookie of the week two times in his and Keene State’s first collegiate season.

Eastern Connecticut head coach Marc Senia was voted the 2022 LEC Coach of the Year by his peers after guiding the Warriors to their second LEC championship in as many years. Eastern has won four of its five tournaments so far this season, with one second-place finish.

The following student-athletes were recognized as First Team All-LEC Friday following the conclusion of the LEC championship, as they finished in the top-five of the conference tournament: Lewis, Jonah Dupuis (Eastern Connecticut), Brady Hathorn (Castleton), Nick Ojala (Castleton), Chris Davidson (Eastern Connecticut).
